あたりを見ると、PPTP を使うときは

  alias char-major-108 ppp_generic
  alias ppp-compress-18 mppe

に変えろとありますね。PPTP 使わないときはどうなんでしょ？

うちでは聞いてるように見えますね。

そういえば誰かに「MPPE ってなに？」と聞かれましたが上の文書には

MPPE is Microsoft Point-To-Point Encryption, and is described in RFC3078.
You will need to install it if your PPTP Server requires it.  Microsoft
Windows VPN Server requires MPPE. 

とありますね。
